Edgewater is open for guided tours on the third Saturday of the month, May through October. Located in the Hudson River Valley, Edgewater remains one of the finest examples of Greek Revival Architecture and has long served as an oasis for prominent Americans including writer Gore Vidal and the “Last Gentleman of Wall Street,” Richard Hampton Jenrette. On this tour, CAHPT invites you to explore the site to learn about the design, construction, and maintenance of the estate as well as the lives of those who designed, decorated, and occupied the extravagant home and landscape from 1820 to 2018. Guided tours will be offered at 10:00am, 12:00pm, and 2:30pm and all guests are required to purchase tickets in advance.
Important note about directions: GPS navigation seems to favor using the address “Dock Road, Barrytown, NY” without a house number. Follow Barrytown Road over the railroad bridge to reach Edgewater. Please do not turn onto Station Hill Road (even if GPS says to!), as you will find yourself on the wrong side of the railroad tracks with no place to park. If this happens, turn around, return to Barrytown Road and turn left following the instructions above. Parking is on the grass lot to the left of the road by the tracks. Please do not drive through the house gate, as there is not room for parking inside.
