Leath succeeds Margize Howell and Peter Kenny, who led the Trust as co-presidents until their recent retirements on March 31. Previously, Leath served as Chief Curator and Vice-President of Collections, Research, and Archaeology for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) and Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC. Rare Original Table Acquired
We are delighted to announce that Classical American Homes has recently acquired a rare rosewood and marble sofa table, one of two that originally stood in Millford’s magnificent double parlor. Attributed to Duncan Phyfe & Son, the New York cabinetmaking firm that supplied virtually all of the furniture for this stately Greek Revival mansion, the table passed by descent from John Laurence Manning and his second wife Sally Clarke Manning to its last owner before it was acquired by Classical American Homes. Winter News from HOST
We have had a busy winter of events at Ayr Mount and the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail (HOST). In mid-January, there was a film shoot for a new series called “Lost Speedways”, which will appear on NBC Universal’s new streaming platform, “Peacock“. Racing legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were on site for the shoot with Matthew Dillner, which took place on the only remaining dirt track from the inaugural 1949 season. 2020 Emerging Scholars Colloquium
Classical American Homes and The Decorative Arts Trust (DAT) were pleased to welcome a talented group of speakers and an enthusiastic audience to our fourth Emerging Scholars Colloquium. Held on Sunday, January 26, at the George F. Baker Carriage House, this event sold out and was attended by over 100 guests, many of whom joined us for the Bloody Mary and Ham Biscuit Benefit Brunch which followed. RHJ Memorial Lecture & Reception
The carriage house at 69 E. 93rd Street was the site of the second Richard Hampton Jenrette Memorial lecture the evening of December 10, 2019. Entitled, The Consummation of Earthly Bliss: Dick Jenrette’s Edgewater, the lecture was delivered by CAHPT’s own Peter Kenny and served as a fitting close to our year-long celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of its purchase by Dick in 1969.
